Think again. CRA views Gift Certificates as ‘near cash’ making that gift a taxable benefit to the employee. Instead, buy them a thoughtful gift under $500, then they get the full benefit of the gift, not the tax man.
Even better, if you buy local, your employees can always return the gift and choose something else!
